Pride of Britain winners Hughie Higginson and Freddie Xavi will be paying a visit to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday 20 April as part of their 100km Football Ground Challenge!

Ahead of Saturday's fixture with Swansea City, Town are delighted to be welcoming Pride of Britain winners Hughie and Freddie to the John Smith's Stadium to complete the 32nd lap of their 100km Football Ground Challenge.

Kicking off on Boxing Day in 2021, the pair began at Turf Moor - home of Burnley FC - and have embarked on a national adventure since then to tick off every ground in the Premier League and EFL.

Donations raised in support of the challenge on Saturday will be go towards supporting children with cancer at Leeds Children's Hospital.

After Hughie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in September 2020, his best friend Freddie decided to set himself the challenge of running a Junior Park Run of 2km every day for 50 days.

So far, the boys have raised £350,000 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, which has been used to buy fresh fruit for Hughie's ward, as well as vital equipment to help in A&E, training, and renovating the Teen Zone in the hospital.

Recognised by BBC Radio Lancashire for their fundraising, the duo won a Pride of Lancashire Award, before going on to win the Fundraising Award at the Pride of Manchester and finally being awarded Young Fundraisers at the Pride of Britain Awards in November 2021.

In 2022, Hughie and Freddie were also awarded a British Citizens Youth Award in recognition of their fundraising.

Wanting to take on a challenge together - and both being huge football fans - the boys decided to take on the challenge of running another 100km each by completing 1km around the pitch of the 92 Premier League and EFL stadiums - with the John Smith's Stadium being the 32nd on their list!

The remaining 8km will be completed at National Stadiums and other notable sporting grounds.

We're delighted to say that Hughie successfully completed his treatment on Saturday 27 January 2024.
