Visiting the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Springwood on Saturday 13 April, Club Ambassador Andy Booth joined the local Sikh community in celebrating Vaisakhi!

A celebration of both the birth of the Sikh faith and harvest in the Punjab, Vaisakhi is one of the most important days of the year in the Sikh calendar. Having previously met with Owner and Chairman Kevin Nagle some months ago, forming a meaningful relationship between the Club and the local Sikh community going forward is a shared goal, and this visit was one of the first steps on that journey.

Presenting the Gurdwara with a personalised Town shirt that will now hang framed in Springwood, providing some match tickets for the upcoming visit of Swansea City and taking the time to speak about the Club’s desire to be as open and inclusive to all as possible, it was a fantastic morning that we hope will be the first of many within the many diverse religious and cultural communities across the town and surrounding areas.

We would like to thank Sundeep Singh Boghar and the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Management Committee for their invite, help in organising and hospitality.

Huddersfield Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth commented:

“I absolutely loved the chance to visit the Gurdwara on Vaisakhi, and can’t thank everyone involved for the invitation and their hospitality on the day. Having never visited a Gurdwara before, it was a brilliant experience and great to feel that excitement toward Town on what was already a really important celebration for the Sikh community.

“Presenting a Town shirt, gifting some match tickets, speaking to the congregation and getting to know what was happening at the celebrations just bought the Club closer to the community in a meaningful way, and as we are with everyone, we want Huddersfield Town to represent and feel welcoming to every single person in our area.”
