This year’s Pedal for Pounds: The Land of the Dragon, sponsored by Millers Oils, starts tomorrow and will finish in Cardiff on Friday 28 April.

The eagerly awaited event starts on Wednesday 26 April with the ride starting at the John Smith’s Stadium and finishing on Friday 28 April at the Cardiff City Stadium, where Town will take on the Bluebirds in a noon kick-off on Sunday 30 April.

The ride raises funds for the lifesaving Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity and the Huddersfield Town Foundation, as well as two other extremely deserving causes, Andy’s Man Club and Ruddi’s Retreat with the ride totalling 240 miles.

85 cyclists will be taking part in the P4P11 this year, putting their training to work in this difficult test and raising money for four important charities. If you don’t know anyone doing the ride but would like to support the charities involved, CLICK HERE to donate.

See below to find out more about the charities you will be supporting.

Huddersfield Town Foundation

The Huddersfield Town Foundation plays a crucial part in the Kirklees community and allows children of all ages to get access to education as well as providing a pathway and accessible sporting opportunities to the local community.

The Foundation welcomes children into a diverse and friendly environment, allowing children to increase their confidence and social skills by mixing with others their age and giving them lifelong opportunities.

The Foundation also plays a part in enriching local organisations by helping to deliver projects to the community.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was founded in 2000 and plays a massive part in saving people’s lives across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

As a rapid response service, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves approximately five million people across four million acres.

This charity is completely dependent on donations from people and companies and needs £19,000 a day to keep both its air ambulances in the air.

The charity also relies on the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust for help from paramedics and doctors.

Andy’s Man Club

Andy’s Man Club is a mental health charity, offering help to men across the UK with free to attend peer groups as well as online help.

The charity was formed in 2016 by Luke Ambler and his mother-in-law after his brother-in-law, Andy, sadly took his own life.

Andy’s Man Club focuses on ending the stigma that men can’t talk about their own feelings and wants to help men through the power of conversation.

The charity has groups across the country to help men everywhere.

Ruddi’s Retreat

Ruddi’s Retreat has a mission to send other families going through traumatising circumstances to create memorable times on holiday by giving them the opportunity to go and spend some time in a caravan together at the seaside.

Currently, the charity has four large static caravans in Filey, on the East coast of Yorkshire, where families with life-limiting illness and children going through grief can apply to stay for a week.

The caravans cost £60,000 to run and the charity relies on donations as well as the funds from their non-profit café in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, HD7 5AW.
