KIU FUNDS TO BENEFIT CLUB’S CHARITY PARTNERS

3 November 2017

Club will give its half of the campaign’s funds to local charities in 2017/18

- Three additional charities to benefit from the KIU campaign
- The Club’s half of the funds will now be donated back out
- Campaign will help fund a nurse, a training kitchen and defibrillators

The funds raised for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign during the 2017/18 season will benefit three more local charities in addition to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with Huddersfield Town opting to donate their share between the three charity partners.

For the past eight seasons, the KIU campaign has raised money for both the YAA charity and the Club’s Academy, with 50% going equally to each party. The Club has taken the decision to redirect its half of the funds raised through the KIU campaign out to its charity partners; the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Hollybank Trust and its own charity the Town Foundation.

Commercial Director Sean Jarvis commented:

“The ‘Keep It Up’ campaign has raised over £1.7 million in total since inception in 2009, with half of that amount going to the Yorkshire Air ambulance to support them with the great work they do.

“This season, the Club have decided to donate their half of the funds to the Club’s three charity partners; ensuring that any money raised will generate the greatest benefits to the local community.

“The funds will be used for some fantastic initiatives and I hope Town fans will back the campaigns as they always have done”

The information below details the intended use of the funds by each charity:

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance will receive half of the funds raised as part of the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign as normal and will use its share of the money to help fund the exceptional work they do. It costs the independent charity £12,000 a day to provide their 24/7 lifesaving rapid emergency service to the five million people across the Yorkshire region each day.

The other half of funds raised will be split equally between the following three charities:

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice will put its share of the money towards its ‘Fund a Nurse’ campaign which raises money to fund the salary of one nurse at the hospice for 12 months. The Children’s Hospice provides exceptional care and support to children with life shortening conditions and their families across Yorkshire and the wider region.

Hollybank

The Hollybank Trust will put its money towards the ELMS Stage 3 project. The project will look to develop a now old disused kitchen into a training kitchen for their children. The kitchen shall also be opened up and accessible to disabled people living in the local community. The Hollybank Trust is a charity that cares for 125 profoundly disabled babies, children, young people and adults.

Town Foundation

The Club’s own Charity, the Town Foundation will use its money to work with Goals4Hearts to install defibrillators in all 26 of the schools that benefit from the Breakfast Club initiative. The Town Foundation was established by Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle and looks to improve the quality of life for young people across the Huddersfield and West Yorkshire area.

In September, the Club announced that ‘Pedal for Pounds 8’ had raised a staggering £189,369 of the total £232,007 raised by the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign, taking the overall grand total to over £1.7 million.

This year the Club will be raising money through the ‘Pedal for Pounds 9: The Last Goalpost’ ride, sponsored by Made by Cooper. Cyclists will be tasked with riding back from Belgium via France to commemorate the six Huddersfield Town players who lost their lives in WW1 on its 100th anniversary.
