CHRIS NETS LATE CHESTERFIELD WINNER

19 November 2012

Midfielder wins three points for loan club

Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Atkinson made the headlines again this weekend when he notched another winner for Chesterfield – his third during his loan spell at the npower League 2 outfit.

The Academy graduate has now scored four goals during his loan spell with his latest coming in second-half stoppage time to defeat Oxford.

Chesterfield striker Marc Richards, who provided Chris’ assist, told Chesterfield’s official website that he is delighted with the impact the midfielder has made since his loan switch.

"I think all three or four of his goals have been winners, so it just shows the class of the lad. He's a good player, he's young and enthusiastic and hopefully he can keep getting goals.”

The Spireites are now 16th in the npower League 2 and are back in home action on Tuesday night when they take on Cheltenham. Town defender Liam Ridehalgh is also on loan at the Proact Stadium, but was an unused substitute during the Oxford victory.

Elsewhere, striker Kallum Higginbotham didn’t enjoy the same fortunes. Town’s on loan man was substituted at half-time for Carlisle against Leyton Orient on Saturday as the Cumbrians suffered a 4-1 defeat at home.

Jimmy Spencer’s disappointing loan spell at Brentford looks to be over because of injury. The striker’s deal is due to be up on Tuesday, but he has returned to Town early to receive treatment on his thigh injury.
