Boyle and Warde score in good win

- Town Under-23s win at Crystal Palace
- Jack Boyle & Sam Warde score the goals
- Highlights on HTTV this week

A young Huddersfield Town Under-23 side performed excellently to record an impressive 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in the Professional Development League on Tuesday afternoon.

Frankie Bunn’s side featured a trio of 16 year olds against a much more experienced Eagles side that included former internationals Mathieu Flamini, Fraizer Campbell and ex-Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch.

However, it was the Terriers who controlled the game for large periods – with a brace of first-half goals from midfielders Jack Boyle and Sam Warde sealing an impressive win.

First year scholars Dom Tear, Olly Dyson and Jordan Williams all started at Selhurst Park and were part of the Town side that settled early into a great pattern of play; patiently passing out from the back under pressure from the opposing players.

The first goal came midway through the opening half, with striker Rekeil Pyke hauled down in the box by a defender as he looked to latch onto Williams’ cross from the right. That gave Jack Boyle the chance to convert from the penalty sport and he succeeded, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Town continued to make the running, with Tear and Dyson both testing the ‘keeper from range.

Bunn’s players also pressed Palace impressively high up the pitch and that led to the second goal three minutes before the interval. The home players made an error in possession around their box, which allowed midfielder Warde to snatch possession and place a left-footed shot in off the inside of the post.

There were no goals in the second period, although Town hit the woodwork on three separate occasions. Impressive skipper Regan Booty rattled the woodwork with a free kick before goal-scorers Boyle and Warde had similar look with second half strikes.

Highlights of the game will appear on HTTV later this week.
