Huddersfield Town’s Under-23s side battled well at The Den to draw 1-1 with Millwall in the Professional Development League.

Just two days after facing Category 1 Academy side Brighton in the Premier League Cup, Frankie Bunn’s youngster made another long trip to London to face Millwall in a return to league action.

The Senior Professional Development Coach made four changes to the side that was beaten by Brighton, fielding no overage players. One of the changes saw trialist Kenny Aileru start in the middle of midfield, whilst Danny Kane missed out as he was travelling to join up with the Republic of Ireland U21s squad.

Within the first five minutes Millwall, who currently sits second in the PDL South table, had two good chances but both Rooney and Martin fired efforts over the crossbar.

However, despite the short turnaround in matches for the youngsters they took the lead after just 15 minutes. Jordan Williams did excellently down the right-hand side, he rode a challenge from Chesmain before picking out Olly Dyson in the box, who scored at a second attempt.

Despite going behind Millwall continued to push back Frankie Bunn’s youngsters and had a shot cleared off the line in the 28th minute. Noel Leighton, who was a threat to the Terriers backline all afternoon, had his deflected effort cleared by the Town defence.

The home side continued to impress as Rarmani Edmonds-Green brought down a Millwall player in the box. However, Leighton’s penalty was comfortably saved by ‘keeper Luke Coddington.

Coddington continued to keep Millwall at bay denying Olaofe from point blank range until Leighton finally for the better of him. The striker showed good strength to get into the box and fired a low drive into the bottom corner, to level the scores just before half-time.

There were far fewer chances in the second half, as Town’s youngster battled well despite having some tired legs.

The only meaningful opportunity fell to the home side as Olaofe put a header wide from six yards out.

The draw means Town’s youngsters have now gone three PDL matches unbeaten; highlights will be available on HTTV next week!
