Academy graduate moves into First Team squad

- Regan Booty signs new contract at HTAFC
- 18 year-old moves into First Team squad
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Huddersfield Town Academy graduate Regan Booty has today signed an extended contract with the Club.

The 18 year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a new contract that runs until the summer of 2019, with the Club having the option of a further year’s extension.

Regan has also been given the number 46 shirt and will now move up to train daily under Head Coach David Wagner as part of the First Team squad.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“Regan has trained with us on many occasions and was a part of the First Team group during pre-season, but now he makes the move into the senior group full-time.

“He has earned the opportunity to take the space in the central midfield area of the squad that Ivan Paurević has left. He has good football intelligence, he works very hard, he is a good talent and has a lot of space to improve even more.

“He will move into the First Team changing room and train with us every day as well as play games with the Under-23s, which is still important to his improvement.

“When we have a space in the squad, we always look to the Academy first. If we think a player is good enough, he will get the opportunity – just as Regan is now and Philip Billing was before.

“I’m looking forward to working with him and helping him to get used to senior football during the next weeks and months.”

Left-footed midfielder Regan hails from Holmfirth and joined the Club at Under-9 level.

He broke into the Club’s Under-18 side as a 15 year-old, quickly progressing to make 12 appearances for the Under-21 side barely a year later.

Regan subsequently signed his first professional contract on the day of his 17th birthday in April 2015 and was a key figure as the Under-21s won the Professional Development League title in the 2015/16 campaign.

He has captained Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn’s Under-23 side again this season, scoring three goals in 20 starts so far.

Booty also made his First Team debut in Town's Shankly Trophy match against Liverpool FC on 20 July 2016.
